This documentary follows in the wake of one of the greatest adventure stories of the twentieth century, the Kon-Tiki crossing, in which Thor Heyerdahl drifted a balsa wood raft from South America deep into the Pacific to argue that ancient mariners could have settled Polynesia from the east.
The Tangaroa Expedition revisited that daring idea, carrying a new crew across thousands of miles of open ocean on a traditional raft, facing storms, sharks and the sheer scale of the Pacific along the way. It is a story of seamanship, curiosity and nerve, exactly the kind of journey that inspired Alby Mangels and his fans.
